Welcome to Marietta , Ohio
As the First Organized settlement in the Northwest Territory, Marietta is special. Some say it is the beauty of our brick streets and city parks. Others say it is our setting at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers or the restored historic homes and buildings.

Founded in 1788 by the Ohio Company, our history is evident in our museums and the ambience of our Historic Downtown. The visitor will find many opportunities to relax and enjoy the friendliness of a small town.  Whether it is shopping for antiques or gifts in our unique boutiques, dining al fresco by the Ohio River, or hiking through our parks, a visit to Marietta offers glimpses into the past.

For visitors and residents, Marietta offers urban amenities with small-town hospitality.  From fine cuisine restaurants to a lively arts and entertainment scene, it’s easy to understand why people who visit decide to live here.

Rooted in its history, yet reaching for the future.  Marietta and the rolling hills of Washington County will enchant the visitor and entice the business traveler. Stroll our brick streets, shop in our unique stores, and enjoy a leisurely meal HamarVillageat one of our charming restaurants! We know you’ll want to come back again and again.

Ohio Magazine named Marietta one of Ohio’s Best Hometowns. “Ohio’s oldest settlement, shows its resilience.” states Clare Decapua, author of the November article.

Decapua describes Marietta “as the kind of place that not only draws tourists, but also attracts new residents, from young families to retirees, to settle into its uncommon charm.

The article delves into the soul of Marietta, a town, “our” town, a town comfortable with “old and new, sleepy and active, old-fashioned and progressive, attributes, which are part of the intangible appeal of a hometown that’s surrounded by so much obvious natural beauty.”
